Oracle® Rules Palette Release 9.1.0.0.0 E15811-01 |
Oracle Insurance Policy Administration (OIPA) is a next-generation, rules-based policy administration system that increases product speed-to-market by using a common rules engine and calculation architecture. Products are configured using XML rules, eliminating the need for hard coding. The XML rules are separate from the underlying code. There are numerous XML rules available to configure, giving OIPA an unparalleled breadth of functionality. The XML rules available for configuring products are listed in this Configuration Guide along with the attributes and values. All XML rules are organized by their function in the OIPA system.
In order to configure these XML rules, you must use the Oracle Insurance Rules Palette application. The Rules Palette is a standalone application that provides straightforward functionality, which assists with configuration tasks. Until now all configuration had to be done in XML and required knowledge of specific elements, attributes and values. The Rules Palette mitigates the need to know XML and features user-friendly visual configuration tools. The Rules Palette generates the XML for you and allows you to view and edit it if necessary.
It is important to understand the XML that is generated by the Rules Palette. You can use this guide to look up rules and associated elements. The elements listed in this guide control the OIPA system. Although the Rules Palette has created visual configuration tools for a majority of available rules, there are some auxiliary rules that can only be configured using XML.
This guide can be used like a dictionary, as it lists all rules, elements, values and their definitions. The Rules Palette help system is another useful resource, which discusses topics such as rules that should be configured together, how to use visual configuration tools instead of XML, how the rules are organized and other "how to" configuration topics.
Note: Attending the Oracle Insurance Policy Administration Configuration I class offered by Oracle University is highly recommended. This class reviews the fundamental structure of the system and the rules required to correctly configure it.
